How to Price Your Used Item to Sell Fast

The right price is the one buyers near you are already paying for something similar. Price too high and your ad sits for weeks; price too low and you leave money on the table. Here is a simple way to find the sweet spot for phones, laptops, bikes, furniture, appliances and almost anything else.

1. Look at what's selling near you

Search IndiaWish for the same model (or the closest match) in your city, for example used mobiles in Hyderabad or all ads. Note three to five prices for items in a similar condition and age. Searching the exact model, such as iPhone 13, shows the asking prices at a glance.

Remember that ad prices are asking prices; the final selling price is usually a little lower.

2. Start from the right reference

For electronics, start from the price the same model sells for new today, not what you paid. Prices of phones and laptops fall when newer models arrive. Furniture and appliances lose value more slowly if they are well kept and from a known brand.

The IndiaWish valuation calculator gives you a quick estimate for common items.

3. Adjust for what makes your item better or worse

Adds valueLowers value
Original bill and boxNo bill
Warranty leftOut of warranty
Very good condition, no scratchesDents, cracks, scratches
Good battery healthWeak battery
Original accessories (charger, remote)Missing parts
One owner, service recordsRepairs, replaced parts
Popular colour or variantRare spare parts

Be honest with yourself about condition. Buyers will be honest with you when they see it.

4. Leave room to negotiate

Most buyers in India expect to bargain. Set your price about 5–10% above the lowest price you will accept. Decide your lowest price before the first chat, so you don't drop too far on the spot.

Round numbers that sit just under a mark work well in search and in buyers' heads: ₹14,500 feels clearly cheaper than ₹15,000.

5. Make the ad worth the price

Two ads at the same price don't sell equally. The one with clear photos, a full title (brand, model, size, colour) and an honest description gets the chats. Read photos that sell for quick photo tips.

6. Watch the response and adjust

  • Many chats in the first day or two: your price may be too low. Hold firm on bargaining.
  • Some chats but no deals: you're close. Ask buyers what they'd pay.
  • No chats in a week: the price is likely too high, or the photos are weak. Lower the price by 5–10% or improve the photos, then wait a few more days.

7. When you just want it gone

Moving city or need the space? Price at the low end of similar ads and say "quick sale" in the title. You'll usually sell in a day or two. For phones and devices, the IndiaWish instant price calculator gives you a fixed offer with a free doorstep pickup.
